WHO WE ARE
When generosity remains at the center of one’s universal outlook, it can be understood that our world is a family, consisting of billions of brothers and sisters, sheltered by “Mother Earth.” Just like any family, we are an integrated unit of co-dependent individuals, each person has their own gifts and blessings, their power however, increases manifold, when they are recognised and shared.
We as a group of teenagers consider ourselves to be truly blessed with all the resources and privileges that we have been bestowed with. The word Saathi, connotes a friend, a pillar of support, a helping hand, and this word in itself delineates our goal. We wish to share our resources and privileges with those not privy to the same resources (luxuries) for at Saathi , we believe uniting today will strengthen tomorrow.
Living in Mumbai, majority of us are privileged enough to have house help. They migrate from smaller villages to urban cities like Mumbai leaving their families behind in search of better opportunities, grabbing any chance at a better life for them and their families.
When the pandemic had us all homebound, we discovered the incessant struggles that our very own house help and their families faced, and knowing that we could help, we were instantaneously inspired to play our part in making a difference. As the COVID-19 pandemic began its retreat, we planned a visit to the small rural village Kond, a 3-hour drive away from Mumbai. Upon reaching the village, reality truly sunk in, and the invisible line of glaring economic disparity that separated large parts of the Indian population was clearer than ever.
